Another Day

Quick

Got some the things done in the lab today. For the last month, Iv’e been recording a project for my boy Quick. It’s been a while since we’ve unpacked the equipment and opened up the basement. We used to record in Traktion by Mackie, and would still be today if a hard drive failure did not cause us to loose the unlock key. It uses a  very simple and Intuitive Interface that’s great for beginners. Anyway, I had to learn how to record in Fruity Loops.

If you want to learn a skill, but may not want or have the opportunity to continue your education, search YouTube. Originally, we wanted to have our individual audio files mastered at a professional studio, which we would have had to pay for, but, with the help of some YouTube mixing and mastering tutorials (shout out to John Miller), we feel, we have achieved a professional sound. It’s not “Clive Davis” professional but it sounds close enough, and were happy enough with it that we will produce the the entire LP ourselves.  With An AKG condenser microphone and a Mackie Satellite Fire Wire interface, we’ve always have been able to produce quality sound, but didn’t  know enough about compression and equalization to produce a professionally mastered  sound.

To all amateur musicians, photographers and artist, the internet is an endless learning tool.  A college education or internship is obviously the best way to learn the skills of a chosen profession, but many lessons are available online

Other than that it’s been a low-key day. Took a few photos and did some quick edits because practice makes perfect.

The First Shots of 2013

Happy New Year friends! Hope you brought it in like it was 1999! This morning I had an immense hangover and am still in recovery now at 11:50 pm, but despite my head and stomach aches I decided to take a few pictures for today’s post.  Such passion. I only took a few and didn’t come out with anything great, but these are the best of the bunch. My first edits if 2013. Enjoy!

Shot: My 2012 in Pictures

Everyday Citizen

Hello friends. I came across a post today by Little Red Jenn entitled Weekly Photo Challenge: My 2012 in Pictures. Originally, I re-blogged the post to share her photos with you, but the new post showcased my photos instead of hers. Her photos are great and you can check them out here, but she inspired me to put together a collage of my own favorites from the passing year.

I started with a selection of 80 out of around 200 photos. From there I continued to cut the list down to what I thought were the very best. That was not the easiest of tasks because as you artists know, we are attached to our work. After some deliberation the group became what you will see below. If you follow this blog your’e probably tired of seeing some of these photos and I swear I will never re-post any again, but I thought this would be an appropriate post given the time of year. These photographs aren’t mind blowing or timeless, but I am impressed with them indeed. After all, I am NOT a photographer and most of them were taken with a phone.

I hope that you who are reading can appreciate these mobile photos and are inspired to share your best shots of 2012! I would Love to see them! Please Comment if you decide to do so as to direct me to your post. Thanks for reading. Enjoy! and Happy Early New Year!

A shot I took with my Cannon Powershot SX40 HS.  I’m a novice photographer with no formal training, but with the help of Scott Photo Graphics I was able to come up with some descent edits of this photo using The Gimp photo manipulation software. A free and open source equivalent to photo shop. You can view Scott’s “Dramatic Skies” tutorial here, and can download The Gimp here. It’s an easy way to beef up your digital photos.

#The Instagram Effect

In 24 years, I have never been interested in photography. For 20 of those years I wasnt’t interested in social media.  I thought I was too cool for Facebook until I found out how cool it actually is. I didn’t know a lot about Instagram either upon it’s Android release. My friends were using it, but there not creative people like me. They’re self-portrait people… Continue reading
